Baptist Health Paducah vying for top 3 in breast cancer awareness contest

With one week left in national online voting, Baptist Health Paducah is asking for daily votes to move into the prize-winning Top 3 among 106 videos in the Pink Glove Dance breast cancer awareness contest.

It is currently fourth in the voting. If it moves up one spot, Baptist will be awarded a cash prize, which will be donated to the Kentucky Cancer Program’s Horses and Hope mammography services.

Voting continues until midnight Friday, Nov. 8, at PinkGloveDance.com. Supporters can vote once every day from each of their e-mail accounts.

“We hope everyone will vote today and every day for the Pink Glove Dance!” said Connie Sorrell, director of Kentucky Cancer Program West, “because proceeds will be dedicated to First Lady Jane Beshear’s Horses and Hope initiatives to provide breast cancer education and screening for women across Kentucky and to provide programs for women with breast cancer.”

Locally, KCP has hosted Horses and Hope events to encourage women to get annual mammograms. “Horses and Hope also has sponsored weekend retreats for women who are survivors of any cancer at some local state parks,” said Jamie Smith, the KCP’s Cancer Control Specialist in Paducah.

This year’s video features 14,200 people from three local high schools; the mayors of Paducah and Mayfield; a professional football player; dozens of breast cancer survivors and hundreds of Baptist Health Paducah employees.

Baptist’s third consecutive entry in the contest is ranking higher than previous years, when it finished in the top 8. The campaign is aimed at reminding women to get annual mammograms because early detection of breast cancer saves lives.
