Twelve innovative aging care startups will compete in the Startup Pitch Event at the Louisville Innovation Summit, one of the nation’s foremost Aging Care conferences, to be held October 9-11th at the Downtown Marriott in Louisville, Ky. This is the third year for the event, which on October 11th will offer the winner of the contest a cash prize and the potential to mentor with one of the conference’s founding partners, to help with test marketing and business development. The top 12 were chosen from a competitive field of more than 100 entries, event organizers said.
“The contest was able to attract so many startups because Aging Care is becoming an increasingly ‘hot’ sector for investment and entrepreneurial energy,” said Grace Simrall, Chief of Civic Innovation at Louisville Metro Government. “Women over 85 are the nation’s fastest growing demographic, and in the coming decades, there will be double the number of people over the age of 65. This is a global phenomenon, and one that will have a huge impact on society, and on the healthcare system. The entrepreneurs of today see that there are huge business opportunities in creating products and services that help seniors live better. If we can work together, we can provide ways of delivering healthcare more inexpensively and efficiently, in order to help seniors stay healthy, engaged, and independent, for as long as possible. The Louisville Innovation Summit was created to encourage that conversation,” Simrall said.
The conference is presented by some of the largest corporate names in Aging Care and Insurance, including Humana, Delta Dental of Kentucky, Kindred Healthcare, PharMerica, Signature HealthCARE, Trilogy Health Services, LLC, and AARP as well as dozens of other corporate, media and senior association sponsors. That is very much by design, organizers said, so that The Innovation Summit becomes known as the conference that brings industry, investors, entrepreneurs and policy makers together to help address the gaps in Aging Care. With Louisville already boasting the world’s largest number of Aging Care company headquarters, the platform for creating industry innovation was the logical next step.
“There are any number of conferences you can go to where you can hear the latest news in the industry. The Louisville Innovation Summit is designed to bring together large corporations with entrepreneurs to work together, today. We’re thrilled to have so many entries this year, and we hope that we can continue our tradition of having the brightest entrepreneurial minds in the room. That’s how true innovation happens,” said Ali Sareea, Chief Information Officer at Atria Senior Living.
