Western Baptist Hospital Foundation recently received a $61,523 grant from the Carson-Myre Charitable Foundation for new Baptist Heart Center equipment.
The funds will be used to purchase two machines for stress tests and an elliptical trainer for the Cardiac Rehab Center.
The foundation was started by the late Jane Carson Myre and, her husband Louis Myre, M.D. In 2007, the Carson-Myre Charitable Foundation gave $500,000 to the Baptist Heart Center just before it opened.
Dr. Louis Myre, a retired internal medicine physician, was on staff at Western Baptist for approximately 30 years before retiring in the mid-1980s. In the 1960s, he, along with Drs. C. Pittman Orr and W.P. (Pete) Hall, set up the hospital’s first cardiac ward with five beds. The Cardiac Heart Center bears his name.
